We now have more accurate data when the space station will come back to Earth in a spectacular style.
As we have already discussed, China’s space station Tiangong-1, will very soon crash back to Earth. The ESA (European Space Agency) has been keeping a close eye on the station, and tried to estimate when and where it will crash. Due to it’s rather unusual orbit and the way it moves, it is proving difficult to predict. However, newer observations have shortened the crash period – somewhere between March 30 and April 3 – so it can crash in the next 7 to 10 days.
But you should not worry. Most of the station will burn up before hitting the ground. And even if some bits and pieces do not burn up, it is most likely to hit our oceans.
In spite of ESA’s new calculations, estimates for when Tiangong-1 will come down still aren’t exact, and they probably won’t be until we get much closer to the re-entry. “I think in 5 days or so I’ll start believing the forecasts a bit more,” McDowell said via email. “When the window gets down to 12 hours or so we can start ruling out some continents.” Even ESA admits that it won’t be able to predict a specific time and place for the Tiangong-1 re-entry.
