Why the Pixel may have the best smartphone camera ever

After experimenting with the smartphone market in the past through the collaborative Nexus series, Google unveils its first handset of its very own, featuring ‘the best smartphone camera ever’ according to the highly reputable DxO Mark, the highest ever from what’s considered a very reliable camera testing site.

To back up that bold claim, camera lead Isaac Reynolds posted a number of photos taken with either the Pixel or the larger Pixel XL. According to comments on Reynolds’ post from official Google employees, some of the shots were taken by members of Google’s own engineering team.

Also note that the Pixel camera had a little help. It appears at least half of these photos were processed with Snapseed and VSCO.

Could the Pixel be this great? I can’t say for sure after just an hour in a demo room, but I think we may be in for a pleasant surprise.
